For carers and family
Are you looking after an older family member or friend who has a disability, mental illness, chronic condition or is simply too frail to provide their own care? If so, you may be able to get a lot more help than you realise.
Caring can be an emotionally and physically challenging job, so we’ve devoted an entire section of our website to helping you find government and community services such as home help, personal services, transport, meals on wheels, services for people with special needs and much more to help you cope.
In this section we’ve also included information on looking after your own well-being, because carers often find it difficult to consider their own needs in their caring role. However, if you neglect these your health may suffer and it’ll become much harder to continue looking after your family member.
Our dedicated carer section will help you and put you in touch with all the programs, services, organisations and support groups that can make your life easier, as well as covering important financial and legal issues that you’ll need to consider when you’re thinking ahead.
You will also find information on the Australian Government’s new eHealth record system and how registering for an eHealth record can help you better manage the health of the person or people you are caring for.
