Home modifications and maintenance for carers and family
You may find that the person you care for is unable to get around the house as easily as they used to. If so, you may be able to get help with essential home repairs and modification, including:
- installing safety ramps and support rails
- lever taps and door handles
- good exterior lighting for security
- appropriate insulation and shade
- ramps instead of stairs
- flat entry ways, and
- widening doorways.
Referrals can also be made to reliable tradespeople for other work.

Home and Community Care Program (HACC)
You can access home modifications and maintenance services through the HACC Program. The Home and Community Care (HACC) Program aims to provide you with a basic range of maintenance and support services to help you stay at home. The services are provided by the community, privately, and by church or charitable organisations throughout Australia.
