Speech therapy

One in seven Australians has some form of communication difficulty. Speech pathologists are able to help with a range of these difficulties, including speech and hearing problems, using and understanding of language, problems with voice, fluency, reading and writing as well as eating, drinking and swallowing.

Speech pathology is particularly useful for people who have had a stroke, or an accident that has affected their brain, as well as for people who stutter or have an intellectual disability.

Treatment can be in individual sessions as well as in small groups, workshops or through home-based programs.

How to find a speech pathologist

Speech pathologists can be found in hospitals, nursing homes and community health centres as well as private practices, rehabilitation centres and mental health services. You can also visit Speech Pathology Australia on the web to locate a speech pathologist near you or call them on 03 9642 4899.
