Transport
If you or the person you care for has no transport, or if for any reason they’re unable to use public transport, you can get help – to attend medical appointments, go shopping, participate in social activities or simply get out of the house.
There are concession fares for seniors on public transport throughout Australia, together with taxi subsidy schemes for people with age-related disabilities. In most states there are pensioner excursion tickets, as well as transport concessions for veterans.
Please visit your state or territory transport websites to see which concessions, community transport schemes and facilities are available in your area. The Australia.gov.au website also has information about public transport
If you are able to drive and have a car, all states and territories also offer concessions for seniors on driving licence fees and motor vehicle registration, as well as special concessions for (and other help with) parking.
You can also access transport services through the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program. HACC services aims to provide you with a basic range of maintenance and support services to help you stay at home. The services are provided by the community, privately, and by church or charitable organisations throughout Australia.
