Help staying at home

Common question

Question: I know I should get more exercise but I can't afford to join a fitness club.
Answer: There are plenty of activities that you can do without joining a club. Use the stairs instead of the lift. Walk instead of driving. Check your local paper for walking groups, or invite a friend to walk with you. When you do the gardening, shopping or housework, think of it as an opportunity to exercise, not a chore. There are often early morning exercise programs on TV that you can follow, and there are many types of exercise videos available. The RSPCA usually welcomes help to exercise the dogs in their care. Your local Community Centre may have regular dance or yoga sessions at a nominal cost. Ring for a copy of Choose Health: be Active • 02 6269 1080.
