Common question

Question: If I am caring for someone, is it possible for me to go on a holiday without them? Will they still be cared for?
Answer: Contact 1800 200 422 during business hours for information about how to access respite care. You will be able to talk to someone who works with carers to plan practical approaches to respite and other support needs and can also arrange 24-hour emergency respite cover. Residential respite care provides short-term care in Australian Government-subsidised aged care homes for people who are in temporary need of care and who intend to return to the community. Residential respite care may be used on a planned or emergency basis to help with carer stress, illness, holidays or if the carer is unavailable for any reason. Residential respite care will require an Aged Care Assessment (more information). You may need to plan your holiday well in advance in order to organise the care you want.
