| Answer: |
If you require residential care because of an accident or another compensable event, and if a settlement or judgement occurs in relation to that matter, the Australian Government may recover the past and ongoing costs of residential care. You may be asked to pay a higher fee, based on this settlement. In doing so, the Department of Health and Ageing will consider carefully the provisions of the settlement in relation to future costs. The Department of Health and Ageing's decisions about recovery are subject to internal review processes if residents or their trustees are not happy with the decision.
