| Answer: |
The Australian Government recognises that residents can pay for the entire cost of the care they receive, so it provides substantial subsidies to assist with this cost. In addition, residents who face genuine financial hardship in paying their fees and charges may apply to the Department of Health and Ageing for consideration under financial hardship provisions of the Aged Care Act 1997.
Note: Financial hardship assistance is not usually granted where you or your representative have made personal choices that have resulted in your being unable to meet your costs of care. These include but are not limited to entering an extra service home or gifting money or assets.
