Residential aged care is available for older people who feel they can no longer manage at home even with community support. There are two different levels of care provided in residential care (high-level care and low-level care) to ensure that each person receives care at the level that is right for them. To access residential aged care you will first need an assessment of your care needs by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). The ACAT will look at how you are coping at home, and what your care needs are. If appropriate to your needs the ACAT will approve you for entry into residential care. Commonwealth Carelink Centres can assist in finding the ACAT closest to you and also provide you with information on other community based services in your area. These Centres can be contacted on 1800 052 222.
